Good Faith Estimate and the No Surprise Act

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

You will receive a Good Faith Estimate Documentation in your intake paperwork.

What does the evaluation process look like?

Free 15-minute Consultation - Virtual

This is time is for us to get to know each other and plan next steps should you wish to continue. I also collect a non-refundable deposit of $260 (which is applied to your overall bill, covering our first session fees).

Session 1 – Intake Session – Virtual

Each therapeutic evaluation starts with an Intake Session in which I conduct the Clinical Interview. If you have ever attended individual therapeutic services, this first session will likely look similar. These sessions provide so much valuable information in which I get to hear about your story across the lifespan in your own words.

Sessions 2-3 – Evaluation Session(s)- Mixture of in-person and virtual

This is where cognitive, academic, social, executive functioning, emotional/behavioral measures are commonly administered.

Generally, at least one of these sessions are in-person due to common assessments in evaluations require hands-on manipulation of testing materials. I prioritize measures which require us to be in-person during this session in the hope that they can be completed in the time allotted. If there is time, we will conduct all measures in your assessment during this time.
In my experience, evaluations can typically be completed within 4-5 hours. This can vary depending on the scope of the referral question.

Some evaluations can be strengthened by interviewing folks who are involved in your life (e.g., close friend, professor/teacher, romantic partner, family member). Please note that I will never interview folks in your life without your written permission and we will discuss it together before proceeding. I will discuss with you the focus of the interview and highlight that this will be around your evaluation and will not include me disclosing personal information.

Feedback Session – Virtual

This session is conducted via telehealth and after the completion of the evaluation and report writing. During this time, we will review the data, findings, and interpretation of results together. We will also discuss resulting diagnosis (if any) at this time and go into individualized recommendations.
Sometimes folks benefit from an additional feedback session. Please let me know if you would like to have a second feedback session as a means to better understand the results of your evaluation.

How much does an evaluation cost?

Psychological evaluation costs $260/hr. In total, typical costs range from $2,080 to $4,420.

Please note that total costs depend on the complexity of the referral question and hours vary depending on the scope of the evaluation. This is just an estimate.

A deposit of $260 is collected at the time of the consultation (once it is decided to move forward with assessment). The remaining fees are collected at the beginning of your Intake Session.

What is included in the hours for evaluation?

Cost includes the intake, evaluation sessions (e.g. administration of interviews, questionnaires, and measures), scoring, and interpreting results, writing up the results, and therapeutic feedback session.

After completion of the feedback session, you will receive a written report with results, diagnosis (if any), and evidence-based treatment recommendations tailored to you.

Why get a psychological evaluation?

Reasons for receiving a psychological evaluation vary from person to person, though below I provide some common reasons why folks choose to:

Why choose Kosmos Psychology for evaluation?

I have a strong background in psychological assessment which emphasized on ADHD/ASD features. I completed my internship which specialized in offering neurodivergent affirming evaluations across the lifespan and emphasized my therapeutic services with LGBTQIA2S+ affirming practices. As such, I have embraced therapeutic assessment by combining evidence-based practices with a humanistic approach which keeps you at the center of the process.

The evaluation process should be empowering and therapeutic by inviting each client to meet themselves with curiosity and compassion. The evaluation falls short if you are not sure what to do next. As such, I always offer a direct feedback session with clients to make sense of the findings together and give concrete recommendations on how best to support you going forward.

I often hear folks’ express appreciation for the services I provide. I make an effort to see, hear, and understand everyone who comes into the therapeutic space with me. It’s not uncommon for folks to leave the assessment process feeling “lighter,” having a better understanding of themselves after a chance of seeing themselves from an affirming perspective and not “broken.”

My goal is to celebrate who you are and welcome you to celebrate with me. My hope is that have a positive experience which has sparked curiosity and compassion, increasing the likelihood that you will seek out affirming services in the future.
